CBD lubricant: how does it work?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a hemp extract devoid of psychoactive effects. Applied topically to mucous membranes, it interacts with endocannabinoid receptors present in the skin and tissues, which can promote a sensation of relaxation and reduce slight tension or discomfort. Unlike THC, its legal concentration in Europe is capped at 0.2% residual THC, making these formulas fully compliant with regulations.
In a lubricant, CBD is combined with slipping agents, often water, vegetable glycerin, or polymers that prolong the lubricating effect. Some preliminary studies suggest that topical CBD can reduce local inflammation and improve skin sensitivity, two significant assets in an intimate context. The CBD concentration generally varies between 30 mg and 150 mg per bottle depending on the formulas offered on the market.
Different types of CBD lubricant
- Water-based CBD lubricant: light formula, compatible with all sex toys and latex condoms, easy to rinse off, ideal for daily use.
- Hybrid CBD lubricant: a blend of water and silicone for prolonged glide, richer texture, suitable for more intense encounters or dry skin.
- Warming CBD lubricant: incorporates thermal agents such as menthol or mild chili to create a sensation of progressive warmth, in addition to the relaxing effect of CBD.
- Organic or natural CBD lubricant: formulated without parabens or synthetic fragrances, often vegan certified, it favors plant-based ingredients for the most reactive skin types.
How to choose your CBD lubricant
- The lubricant base: opt for a water base if you use lubricants with silicone toys; prefer the hybrid formula if you are looking for long-lasting glide without toys.
- CBD concentration: a content of around 50 to 100 mg per bottle offers a good compromise between perceived effectiveness and cost; below 30 mg, the effect remains very mild.
- The presence of flavors: cannabis or hemp flavor versions provide a subtle herbal note; if you are sensitive to fragrances, choose a neutral formula.
- Format and volume: a 50 ml size is suitable for on-the-go use or for testing a new formula, while a 100-150 ml bottle is more economical for regular use.
- Certifications: favor organic, vegan, or dermatologically tested labels if you have a history of skin sensitivity or delicate mucous membranes.
