The female condom, or internal condom, redefines barrier contraception by placing the decision in the hands of the person wearing it. Discover how it works, its different forms, and how to choose the model suited to your needs.
The female condom: how does it work?
The internal condom is a soft sheath, generally made of polyurethane or nitrile, equipped with two flexible rings: one internal (closed) is inserted into the vagina to hold the device in place, while the other external (open) remains outside to cover the vulva. Unlike the male condom, it can be inserted up to 8 hours before intercourse, offering great flexibility of use.
Its theoretical effectiveness reaches 95% with perfect use, and its internal diameter (about 7.8 cm) makes it suitable for the vast majority of anatomies. Because it does not contain latex, it is also compatible with silicone and water-based lubricants, which enhances comfort and pleasure without the risk of material degradation.
The different types of female condoms
- Classic transparent internal condom: made of thin polyurethane (like Uniq Air), it offers excellent transmission of body heat and maximum discretion during intercourse.
- Sensitive internal condom: designed to maximize sensations for both partners, its ultra-thin wall (Megasex Uniq range) brings you closer to the feeling of skin-on-skin contact while ensuring protection.
- Internal condom with lace: the external ring is adorned with a lace trim (Uniq Lady model), making it aesthetic and pleasant to wear, turning it into an accessory that is as elegant as it is functional.
- Multi-use latex-free internal condom: multipack formats (Uniq Multi x3) for regular use, combining practicality, the absence of latex, and thinness for couples who make shared contraception their daily routine.
How to choose the right female condom
- Latex allergy: if you or your partner are sensitive to latex, always opt for a polyurethane or nitrile model; the entire Uniq range offered here is latex-free.
- Insertion comfort: the first few attempts require a bit of practice; a model with a flexible, soft ring makes handling easier, especially for beginners.
- Desired sensation: for an experience close to natural, favor the ultra-thin sensitive versions; for a more aesthetic presentation, the lace version is a great compromise.
- Lubricant compatibility: all polyurethane models are compatible with condom partners and water-based or silicone lubricants; always check the instructions before using an oil.
- Frequency of use: if you use it regularly, the x3 formats are more economical and prevent running out at the wrong time.
